OUR BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Working together to move the mission into action
After seeing the devastating effects of HIV in South Africa, in 2009 Lorna established Prevention Time as a 501(c)3 to help those most impacted by the virus – children and young people. She is also involved in local ministries for children and inmates.
Mindy joined the board in 2012. Her husband is on the pastoral team of their church, and she is involved in a number of local ministries including women's ministry, prison ministry, tutoring (KidReach), and other small groups.
Kim joined the board in 2012, and is busy working as a nurse at two locations, including the main trauma hospital (Harborview) in the Pacific Northwest. Kim keeps records of board activity and company documents.
Mary is employed at the accounting firm of Bader Martin, P.S., in Seattle and was also previously a tax preparer for H & R Block. She is involved in local women's ministry and Bible studies.
John is skilled in Photoshop and Premiere Pro, gained primarily through his job experience at Boeing. He fills the need for photography and videography that helps convey our work visually. He also leads an Apologetics group for men.
Ed has served at Riverlakes Community Church, Bakersfield, CA; Christ's Church, Federal Way, WA; Bay Area Community Church, Annapolis, MD; and is currently at Shelter Cover Community Church in Modesto, CA.
Margaret Kiyohara (left, at one of our auctions) attends Des Moines Gospel Chapel and is heavily involved in our fundraisers, especially our annual auctions. She has great administrative skills from working in her husband’s business for many years. Margaret has participated in MOPS, Kid Reach (tutoring), children’s ministry, women’s ministry, and other areas as needed. She also serves on the board of the Des Moines food bank.
Janis Schlepp (middle, marching with kids at a Soweto school), attends Christ’s Church, Federal Way, where she serves on the staff in children’s ministry through Sunday School and Awana. She is also involved in community outreaches. Janis is especially gifted in drama, and writes and produces amazing plays! She will be sharing these resources with our ministry partners in Africa.
Sara Dickinson (right, with Peer Educators) attends Mountain Vineyard Christian Fellowship, where she is involved with youth and is the missions ministry leader. Sara is interested in assisting with discipleship development in Africa. This is a never-ending need in such a large ministry, with so many varied needs.
Prevention Time exists to help build an AIDS-free generation and to assist those affected by the virus.
African communities will be empowered to bring solutions to their own neighborhoods, that will:
Be led and coordinated by indigenous people.
Provide AIDS prevention and youth development.
Reach young people in schools, detention centers, and community groups.
Coordinate with clinics, social services, and other agencies to address medical, abuse, and other issues.
Support the needs of orphans and vulnerable children.
We send out regular updates about what we're up to. If you'd like to receive these straight to your mailbox, please enter your name and email address below.
